Vocal students from the studios of Dr. Susan Quigley-Duggan, CMU associate professor of voice and opera, and Dr. Laura Wiebe, CMU assistant professor of music, at the Swinney Conservatory of Music at Central Methodist University, competed successfully at the recent Kansas City National Association of Teachers of Singing (KCNATS).
Aiden Smith (senior music major from Fayette) placed first in the men’s upper division in voice at the contest, held in Liberty. McKenna Nelson (sophomore music education major from Macon) won second in the musical theatre upper division; Daniel Terry (senior music education major from St. Charles) placed third place in men’s upper division voice; and DaSean Stokes (senior music major from St. Robert) took third place in the musical theatre upper division.
Accompanying these students were collaborative pianists Mary Jane Nance and Dr. Barb Berwin, CMU professor of music.
Other CMU students who competed included Kay Wilken (junior music education major from Cole Camp), Anna Kay (senior music major from Boonville), Keaton Denny (freshman music education major from Cole Camp), Cayla Carr (sophomore music education major from Mount Sterling), Josh Stettes (freshman music education major from Pacific); and Cory Bryan (freshman music education major from Springfield).
