An invitational Woodwind Conference for area high school musicians is being hosted by the Central Methodist University Swinney Conservatory of Music and the CMU Admission Office on Thursday, Feb. 16, from 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
The conference features sessions led by CMU woodwind faculty members, covering a variety of skills, such as warm-ups/cool-downs, technique building, breathing and sound production, practice procedures, and other aspects of successful playing.
Directors will also have sessions throughout the day given by each of the clinicians. There will be a display of intermediate and professional line instruments, too, that students and directors will have the opportunity to review.
Both the conference and lunch are free for participants and directors.
The day will conclude with a concert at 4 p.m. by all participants, conducted by the clinicians for each instrument, as well as performances by some of the CMU woodwind ensembles. This concert is free and open to the public.
To attend the invitational, participants should register no later than Wednesday, Feb. 8. To sign up, contact Lynette Beeler at 660-248-6317 or lbeeler@centralmethodist.edu.
